A 16-year-old driver died and his 15-year-old passenger sustained critical injuries following a two-vehicle collision in Yorba Linda, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
As a local news report detailed, the incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. Friday near Yorba Linda Boulevard and Ohio Street. Responding deputies found two vehicles at the location, one of which had crashed into a tree.
Matthew Andres Santome, 16, of Placentia, was pronounced dead at a hospital. The 15-year-old female passenger remained in critical condition. Authorities noted that the driver of the second vehicle sustained minor damage and stayed to cooperate with law enforcement. Investigators stated that neither drugs nor alcohol contributed to the crash.
