Three prominent local high school football teams in West Orange County have successfully maintained their undefeated records following the commencement of league play this past Friday. Huntington Beach, Orange, and Rancho Alamitos each secured decisive victories, advancing their season records to an impressive 6-0.

In Delta League action, Huntington Beach demonstrated its strength by defeating El Modena in a close contest, ending with a score of 24-21. Similarly, Orange continued its dominant run in the Foxtrot League, achieving a significant 42-14 victory over El Dorado. These teams now stand at the top of their respective standings, showcasing consistent performance as they move deeper into their league schedules.

Rancho Alamitos also extended its winning streak, securing a commanding 43-0 victory against Saddleback in the Sigma League. This win pushes Rancho Alamitos to a 6-0 record and positions them strongly in what appears to be a particularly competitive Sigma League race. The Vaqueros are joined by Ocean View and Anaheim, both of whom hold 5-1 records, making them key contenders for the league crown. The road to the championship will feature critical head-to-head contests, including Rancho Alamitos facing Anaheim on October 22. Later in the season, on October 30, Rancho Alamitos will take on Ocean View. Prior to that, Ocean View is scheduled to compete against the Colonists on October 16, adding further intrigue to the league standings.

While these teams celebrated their continued perfection, Pacifica saw its flawless record come to an end. Pacifica, now 5-1, suffered a 14-11 loss to neighboring Cypress in their Iota League opener. This defeat marked their first of the season, altering the landscape of that league's early competition.

On the other end of the competitive spectrum, Garden Grove faced a challenging night, losing 28-7 to its district rival Los Amigos in the Omicron League. This victory propelled Los Amigos to a 5-1 record. As the only team in the Omicron League with an overall winning record, Los Amigos, often referred to as the Lobos, "might be considered a heavy favorite for the title," according to observations of the league. Meanwhile, Garden Grove now holds an 0-6 record, facing the prospect of what could be the only winless season in the school’s more than one hundred years of gridiron play.

Edison is also navigating a distinctive campaign this season. With a current record of 2-4, the team lost its Alpha League opener to Mission Viejo with a score of 42-18.

The initial round of league games has already highlighted the varied and intense competition characterizing high school football in West Orange County, setting the stage for an engaging season ahead for local teams and their supporters.
