Disneyland security initiated a swift response Monday night after two suspicious bags were discovered near the main entrance of the popular theme park, prompting an evacuation and the deployment of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad to the scene. The incident underscored the vigilance required for public safety at major local attractions.
The Anaheim Police Department confirmed receiving an alert from Disneyland security around 9:50 p.m. The report indicated two bags had been found by park personnel near a roundabout, a key point of entry for visitors. Sgt. Eric Anderson, a representative of the Anaheim Police Department, confirmed that officers were immediately dispatched to investigate the situation, which raised significant safety concerns.
Details provided by Sgt. Anderson outlined the unusual nature of the items. One of the discovered bags contained marbles and had wires protruding from its surface, designed to appear potentially dangerous. The second bag was distinctive with duct tape on top and sharp instruments visibly sticking out. Adding to the suspicious circumstances, one of these bags was also noted to be placed on a dolly. Such characteristics led authorities to treat the discovery with utmost seriousness.
In a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of park guests and staff, Anaheim Police officers initiated an orderly evacuation of Disneyland visitors from the immediate vicinity of the suspicious items. Guests were redirected to an alternative exit, a standard protocol when potential threats emerge in high-traffic areas. Given the alarming visual cues presented by the bags, officers promptly requested specialized assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad, whose expertise is crucial for handling such delicate situations.
The bomb squad, a highly trained unit, arrived on site to conduct a thorough and careful examination of the items. Their assessment process continued for some time, culminating shortly before midnight. Sgt. Anderson confirmed that the specialized unit successfully concluded their investigation, determining that the bags were ultimately harmless and contained no explosive devices. This finding allowed authorities to deem the area safe once more.
Despite the all-clear regarding explosives, police suspect the bags were not left inadvertently. According to Sgt. Anderson, authorities believe the items were intentionally placed to create alarm and specifically designed to look suspicious. The Anaheim Police Department is now actively pursuing an investigation into the incident and is seeking to identify and apprehend whoever was responsible for leaving these disturbing items at the entrance of a prominent Orange County destination.
