Travelers arriving at John Wayne Airport can now get a preview of Orange County’s varied destinations through a new OC Parks campaign, officials announced Tuesday. The initiative, named “Claim Your OC Parks Adventure,” features six three-dimensional installations strategically placed at baggage claim carousels in Terminals A, B, and C.
The displays are designed to promote OC Parks’ extensive network of regional, wilderness, and historic parks, along with its beaches, fossil collection, and the OC Zoo. The campaign also highlights various events and programs available across nearly 60,000 acres of parkland within the county.
Orange County Board of Supervisors Chair Doug Chaffee stated that these installations showcase the distinct outdoor experiences awaiting discovery across the County park system, including fossil beds and regional parks. He added that each display captures the essence of the county's diverse park offerings and encourages visitors to embark on their next adventure just outside the airport.
Each installation features custom scenescapes, complementary travel posters, and maps of county parks. For interactive engagement, QR codes are available to direct travelers to an online map and detailed information about OC Parks facilities. Additionally, postcards are provided for travelers.
Terminal A hosts two of these installations. “Claim Your Play Day” draws attention to the county’s regional parks, while “Claim Your Local History” includes a replica of the Old Orange County Courthouse and promotes Orange County’s historic sites. Supervisor Janet Nguyen noted that the baggage claim area serves as an ideal location for showcasing the county's parks and wide array of public offerings, emphasizing that Orange County provides everything from a zoo to wilderness areas and picturesque coastline.
In Terminal B, visitors will find “Claim Your Fossil Find,” which incorporates a faux excavation pit to highlight the county’s fossil collection. Some specimens from this collection are on display at Ralph B. Clark Regional Park. Also in Terminal B is “Claim Your Outdoor Escape,” featuring elements like a life-sized mountain bike, hiking boots, and native plants to represent the county’s wilderness parks.
Terminal C completes the collection with two more displays. “Claim Your Coastal Getaway” depicts a quintessential Orange County beach day, and “Claim Your Wild Side” spotlights the OC Zoo and various animals native to the Southwest region.
