Christian Post reported that Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa now ordains women as pastors, prompting public opposition from the Calvary Chapel Association and several affiliated church leaders. Char Brodersen announced the practice during a Nov. 1 service, stating the congregation has followed this approach for nearly a decade.
Regional association teams and pastors criticized the move as a departure from historical movement convictions. Separately, the Costa Mesa church recently agreed to pay $12 million to settle a lawsuit brought by a former staff member against a former pastor.
