Fountain Valley could soon welcome back Souplantation, a popular all-you-can-eat buffet chain that plans to reopen at 11179 Talbert Avenue. This potential return marks a significant development for Orange County diners, as Souplantation ceased operations at all its locations nationwide in 2020. The project has taken a concrete step forward with a plan review filed with the Orange County health department.

The prospect of Souplantation's return follows a period of absence for the brand, which was widely known for its extensive buffet offerings. In March 2023, ST Three LLC acquired the brand’s rights and intellectual property, setting the stage for its revival. Since then, the reactivated company has opened two new restaurants: one in Tucson, Arizona, and another in Fort Myers, Florida.

The proposed Fountain Valley location would be the third establishment for the revived Souplantation and holds particular importance as its first restaurant in California since its widespread closures. This return to the Golden State represents a notable expansion for the company, bringing a familiar dining option back to the local community.

According to the Orange County Business Journal, the new Souplantation is expected to occupy a substantial space of approximately 7,800 square feet within The Shoppes at Costco Plaza. This significant footprint suggests a robust re-establishment of the chain in the area. While a plan review has been filed, an exact opening date for the Fountain Valley restaurant has not yet been announced. Homeowners and local businesses often view the opening of large establishments as a positive indicator for local commerce and community amenities.

Souplantation, also known as Sweet Tomatoes outside California, earned its reputation for its diverse all-you-can-eat soup and salad buffet. Its stations were historically stocked with a wide array of salads, freshly prepared soups, various pasta dishes, and a selection of baked goods including fresh-baked muffins and focaccia, alongside desserts. Reports on the chain's return indicate that the company plans to reintroduce the original recipes that patrons remember, coupled with updated décor to provide a refreshed dining environment. This blend of classic offerings and a modernized atmosphere aims to welcome back former loyal customers while attracting new diners to the revitalized brand.
